Virant was an extraordinary minister and commentator at Our Lady of Perpetual Health. He was one of the first appointed to the position here when they were authorized after Vatican II. 4 It was his duty to visit the sick and shut-ins and offer them communion. He would also give a short commentary at church services. The optometrist had practiced in the.

Between 1935, when Mary Marian Weldon on banking, Dr. Weldon Welfling came to Western Reserve University in 1960 as chairman of the departments of economics and of hanking and finance. When WRU merged with Case Institute of Technology in 1967, he became chairman of the banking and finance department in the School of Man: agement at Welfling CWRU.

Dr. Welling, 66, died Saturday at. his home in Shaker Heights after 1 nine months' illness with cancer. Ile had to quit teaching fo February because, of his illness. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m.

Thursday in the Amasa Stone Chapel at CWRU. Dr. Welling was an authority on savings banking, the subject of his doctoral thesis at Princeton. University. As a research fellow of the American Philosophical Society in 1966, he wrote "Mutual Savings Banks," a sesquicentennial history of that subject.

He also wrote college-level textbooks on the principles of economics and money and bank-. ting. He was a consultant for the "American Institute of Banking and several textbooks for them that are used for the in-service training in banks. L. Vitus.

Sister Mary Marian, 82, retired school teacher, collapsed and died yesterday in her room the Notre Dame Educational Center. Services will be at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the Regina Mundi chapel of the center, 13000 Auburn Munson Township, Geauga Township. For the 15 years before retiring "in 1970, Sister Marian taught at "St. Michael School in Independence.

She continued to live at the school until 1973 when she moved to the educational center. She joined the Notre Dame nuns as Bertha Leibling from St. Francis parish in Cleveland and taught 42 years, mostly in intermediate grades. She was a graduate of the told Notre Dame Normal School. Cleveland Catholic schools where she taught included Our of Lourdes, St.

Boniface, St. Benedict, St. Michael and St. L. Vitus.

Morris A. Novick Morris A. Novick, 87, of Cleveland Heights, retired sporting goods buyer for the May died yesterday at the Cleveland Veterans Hospital after four years' illness with a heart condition. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Berkowitz-Kumin memorial chapel, 1985 S.

Taylor Cleveland Heights. Mr. Novick began working for the May Co. in 1919 as a sporting goods salesman and retired in 1960 as buyer-manager of the sporting goods department at the downtown store. He was wounded during Army service in France in World War I.

He was a former officer of the Jewish War Veterans post and a member of the May Co. American Legion post. He worked at the polls in South Euclid and campaigned for both local and national candidates including Rep. Charles A. Vanik, D- 22.
