March 13, 2001 DEATHS AND FUNERALS THE KANSAS CITY STAR from 4-B Milton C. Mathew, 90, Plattsburg, MO, (formerly of Sedalia, MO), passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Oakridge of Plattsburg, Plattsburg, MO. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Frederick Zahn officlating.

Following the service there will be a time of fellowship in Fellowship Hall at the church. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Mr. Mathew donated his body to the University of Missouri Anatomical Memorial.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to go to Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia, MO; Avondale United Methodist Church Building Fund; and Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorder Clinic, 1330 Linwood Kansas City, MO 64109. Mr. Mathew was born December 14, 1910, at the home near Ashland, IL, the son of Lloyd C. and Pauline Tiemann Mathew. On June 25, 1936 in Windsor, MO, he married Mary Louise Knoop, who died November 10, 1989.

He graduated with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture from the University of Illinois in 1932. He taught high school Vocational Agriculture in Illinois from 1932-1937. In 1937, he returned with his wife to her family farm near Windsor, MO, where they resided until 1965. Milton was a well known stockman, having registered Hampshire hogs and beef cattle.

He was on the University of Illinois judging team at the American Royal and later participated as a judge. In 1965, he retired and moved to Sedalia, MO. He was a member of Sedalia Masonic Lodge was past president of Sedalia Scottish Rite and Sedalia Shrine Club. This past summer, he received his 50 year pins in Scottish Rite and Ararat Shrine. He was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church, Kansas City, MO, and a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia and Ionia United Methodist Church, Ionia, MO.

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Prather and her husband, James Prather, Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Pauline Alcom, Petersburg, IL, and Elizabeth Smith, Virginia, IL; two granddaughters, Suzanne Prather, Kansas City, MO, and Rebecca Prather Kasselman, Kansas City, MO. Tom was born September 17, 1920, in Kansas City, MO, the son of John "Chick" and Gertrude O'Connor. He is preceded in death by his brother, John A. O'Connor Jr. On June 1, 1944, in Kansas City, MO, he married the love of his life, Mickey, who survives him. Tom was a 1938 graduate of De LaSalle High in Kansas City, MO.

He was a WWII Veteran, serving from 1942 to 1944 in the United States Army. He joined Knopke Brothers Contractors Supply Company in Kansas City, MO, as their first salesman in 1948, and retired in 1984. He participated in Holy Name Society, was a dedicated member of Christ the King Parish, and was most recently a member of Nativity. An avid golfer and charter member of Leawood South Country Club, Tom loved to read, listen to music, and spend time with his family. Perhaps Tom is best known for his greatest accomplishment, making everyone he met feel that they were special.

In the end, Tom's enormous heart is what we will remember him for, and we find peace in knowing how well he is loved. In 1956, she married and is survived by Kendall Simcox, her husband of 44 years. Together, they had four children, and she is survived by Daphne Hisel and her husband, Don, Mark and his wife, Ana, Eric and his wife, Laura, and Allison. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Chanda, Nicholas, Chayla, Isabella, Jordan, and Parker; brothers, Albert, Jack, and Richard; and sister, Pat. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Nadine, Lucy Ann, Ed, Thomas, Estaline, and Robert. Rose was a collector of many things but her favorites were her Santa Clauses and celluloid reindeer, a passion she has passed onto her family.

She was also an antique expert who appreciated the craftsmanship of those who created pieces years before us.
