We had all twelve members of Cargado in Chicago this week, with people visiting from Laredo, NYC, Seattle, San Diego, and Atlanta.We had six incredible guest speakers with backgrounds in freight, technology, and venture capital, and we talked about what it takes to build a generational business.One of the core themes throughout every discussion was just how critical it is to get early hiring right and how you need to set the bar exceptionally high.When I think about the bar we set for ourselves, I think about something that happened this week with our product. We spent an hour as a team critiquing a core experience in our platform that a lot of users interact with on a daily basis.We wrote down over fifty comments during that hour session. This was Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday evening, Rylan Hawkins told me that the engineering team was going to skip drinks and go back to the hotel to grind and make those changes that we discussed as a team.At 11:30pm that night, they were still pushing out PRs.Yesterday, those updates rolled out and the impact of those changes is day and night - our product became even more intuitive, literally overnight.This is the type of company you want to partner with. This is the type of team you want to join.What's the point of this whole post? I guess there's a few things.1. I have a mentor who's started over 15 companies and successfully exited from 4. When I decided to turn my side gig into my full time gig, he gave me one key piece of advice that stuck with me👇It's not WHAT you do, it's WHO you do it with. I feel like I won the lottery w/ my partners in crime, Clara Johnson and Tom Alaimo. Yesterday on our weekly team call we each had 20 minutes to share what we're doing but more importantly, WHY we're doing it. In this we reviewed: - What is your main role(s) and responsibilities?- What do you need to learn to become exceptional at this?Any roadblocks? - How does this role support you and your vision? (This one was my fav💙)- How will you measure success?- What support do you need? I left the call feeling more excited, inspired, and proud of who we're becoming. Our mission is to build a community for sales professionals and leaders to master the craft of sales by transforming the inner game. And I just gotta say, it's coming in hot. Hurray! It’s been almost 3 months since I joined , and I truly feel like I’m in the right place at the right time. The work environment is not just inspiring; it really reinforces our drive for excellence and provides a safe space for career growth and collaboration. I’ve often heard the saying, “Your colleagues are not your friends,” but in less than 5 months here, I’ve built relationships that go beyond mere friendship.
