The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at New Light Baptist Church, with Dr. Cardes H. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucille Burwell and Jeanette Cherry; two brothers, Willie Lee Cherry and Nathaniel Cherry; five sisters, Mary Julia Ware, Thelma Williams, Addie Lee Pearce, Rosa Hinton and Alberta Gore; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Davis, 73, of Greensboro, formerly of Morristown, N.J., died on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, in the company of her last sibling. A retiree to Greensboro 10 years ago, she had spent her time being active in her church, becoming knowledgeable of the computer and furthering her crafting skills.

RICHARD FRANKLIN IDDINGS Mr. Richard Franklin Id- dings, 78, of Pomona, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Green Hill Cemetery Mr.

Iddings was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from Guilford Mills with 20 years of service. He also worked for Southern Railway. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.

He was an avid coin collector. Mr. Iddings spent the last years of his life taking good care of his wife. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Daye Iddings, of the home; sons, Terry Iddings and wife Kathee of Greensboro, Todd Iddings and wife Rosie of Waldorf, Trent Iddings of Greensboro; grandchildren, Tonia, Brad, Sarah; step- grandchildren, Matias, Camila, Michael; niece, Gail Jenkins Tuttle of Rockingham. DAVID BATES KNIGHT Dr. David Bates Knight, a professor of organic chemistry for 36 years, died at his home early Monday morning of cancer.

A celebration of the resurrection will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Church of the Covenant, 505 S. Mendenhall Greensboro. Interment of both Dave's and Gwen's remains will be Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.

in 1966 from Duke University. Dave joined the UNCG faculty in 1967 after spending a year assisting the research of Dr. Jack Hine as a -doctoral fellow at Ohio State University. But his particular passion was teaching organic chemistry.

He was at his best challenging students to invest themselves fully in their education in preparation for their chosen vocation. He helped prepare hundreds of students for careers as doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health -related professions. After becoming ill, it was his special pleasure and privilege to receive care from many former students. He also enjoyed teaching as a visiting professor at his alma mater in Durham in the chemistry department and for several summers in the Duke University Talent Identification Program. In 1986, Dave was appointed as the university's first faculty athletics representative.

He helped guide the athletic department through its unprecedented transition from Division III to Division a process completed in 1991. In recent years, Dave served as president of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association, completing eight years as an officer, and was the first Chair of the NCAA Division I Cabinet on Athletics, Eligibility and Compliance, holding this position for two consecutive terms. He helped spearhead research and discussion that have led to new academic standards for Division I institutions. In each capacity, Dave was a steadfast supporter of students, putting their best interest at the heart of all of his efforts. In recognition of his accomplishments, the Southern Conference recently voted to establish a graduate scholarship in his honor.

Dave was also a significant supporter of youth baseball in Greensboro, coaching at the Bronco and Pony league levels for nearly 10 years. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gwendolyn Waldrop Knight. He is survived by his son, Jim Knight, and his wife, Wendy, of Germantown, his daughter, Kate Knight, of Greensboro; his brothers, T. T. Knight Jr.

(Sam) of Johnson City, and Robert Knight of Louisville, his mother-in-law, Edith Nelsen Waldrop; his sister-in-law, Virginia Waldrop Adkins and her husband Kenneth, all of Richmond, and by a host of treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friday at Moriah United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Keith Franklin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Guilford County, Mrs. Sharpe was born June 7, 1918, to the late John Franklin Smith and Judith Magdoline Turtle Smith.

She was a member of Moriah United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday School for many years and was an active member of the administrative board. Survivors are husband, John W. She was a graduate of East Carolina University and taught for more than 40 years in the North Carolina public schools, retiring from Allen Jr. High School. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald L. Vincent. Mrs.
