Listed Surrey Stakes Epsom Guide 2024 (2024)

Grant Tuer saddles our first runner in the Listed Surrey Stakes at Epsom on Friday in the form of his filly Bellarchi. The three-year-old arrives here on the back of finishing sixth in the Listed Sky Bet Fillies' Stakes at York earlier this month.

That had followed a decent run of form in lesser races, winning twice at Southwell and Ascot already in 2024 at class four and two level respectively.

She has struggled at this sort of level during her career and she'll need to improve to play a part in this.

Richard Fahey saddles one runner in the Listed Surrey Stakes on Friday at Epsom in the form of his colt, Native American. The three-year-old has had four runs in his career so far, winning twice at York and Curragh.

Those victories came in minor events before finishes of sixth in a G1 at ParisLongchamp and eighth in the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket, which don't provide loads of encouragement for this contest.

However, is lightly raced so cannot be discounted.

Newmarket-based trainer James Fanshawe sends one of his runners to the Listed Surrey Stakes on Epsom's Friday card in the form of the current market outsider, Heritage House. The filly has won once during her career so far, in a class four race at Leicester last term.

Since then, she has recorded form figures of 22455, running creditably in company like this on her last three outings, all at Newmarket.

She has been unable to really challenge for victory but she could grab a place if going well again. It is unlikely, though.

Archie Watson has one in the 7f Listed Surrey Stakes on Friday at Epsom in the form of his colt Evade. The three-year-old is another one of the runners with a handful of runs in his career, recording figures of 1429 so far.

He has begun inconsistently, winning on debut at Deauville before a fourth-place finish in a G3 at the same course next time out. He was then second in another grouped race at ParisLongchamp before a disappointing ninth in a G1 at the same course in October.

This is a little easier and he cannot be ruled out.

Ralph Beckett currently boasts the market favourite in Epsom's Listed Surrey Stakes at the time of writing with his gelding Zoum Zoum. The three-year-old finished second in the G3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury last time out.

That runner-up finish ended a three-run unbeaten sequence, after his first few outings in his career all yielded success. The most impressive of those wins was in the Listed Herod Stakes at Saint-Cloud in November last term, winning by just under two lengths.

He has to come here with lots of promise and he should go very close.

Eve Johnson Houghton sends one of her horses to the Listed Surrey Stakes over seven furlongs at Epsom with her gelding Balmacara. The three-year-old has only raced three times in his career so far at Newmarket and Doncaster (twice) before heading here.

After finishing third on debut, he has since won his next two races by a head and four lengths respectively at Doncaster on both occasions. The nature of the last win has him coming to this race with plenty of promise and potential.

He will be expected to be in the mix for victory.

Stuart Williams saddles one in the Listed Surrey Stakes in the form of our last runner, Pandora's Gift. The filly arrives here in terrific form, having won her last four starts in a row following a second-place finish on debut.

Three of those wins came at class four level, before the most impressive success to date in a listed race at Chelmsford City last time out at the beginning of this month.

She won by just over two lengths that day and is a big player here if in the same form, as she looks to make it five in a row.
